How you opt in to messages from Abierto

Abierto is a free directory of businesses that are open right now on the Puerto Rican islands of Vieques and Culebra. This page describes exactly how a business owner asks to be able to update their status by text message, and what happens afterwards. It is the same flow whether it is done on the website or in the app.

Who this is for

Only business owners who have a listing on Abierto. Visitors browsing the directory are never messaged and are never asked for a phone number.

The opt-in, step by step

  1. The owner goes to abierto.app/register and fills in their business: name, category, island, and their own phone number.
  2. The phone number field is optional and is labelled with what it is for. Beside it the form says: “Adding your number lets you change whether you are open by sending one word to Abierto. We only ever reply to a message you send.”
  3. Nothing is pre-ticked and nothing is filled in for them. Typing the number is the consent, and leaving it blank is a complete signup — the listing works either way.
  4. They submit the form. There is no approval step and no waiting.
  5. The next screen confirms it and shows the number to write to, the list of words that work, and how to stop.

An owner who gave their number verbally — at the ferry, or over the counter during outreach — is told the same three things before it is written down: what the number is used for, that Abierto only ever replies to a message they send, and that STOP ends it. Their number is entered by the operator only after they say yes.

What is sent, and when

The owner always sends first. Abierto replies to a message from a number that is already on a listing, and it never starts a conversation. It never sends marketing, offers or promotions of any kind.

Sending OPEN, ABIERTO, CLOSED, CERRADO, LUNCH or ESTADO changes or reports that business's public status, and Abierto answers with one confirmation in the language the owner wrote in. That is the whole conversation.

Message frequency varies — how often you hear from us depends entirely on how often you write to us, because every message is an answer to one of yours. Message and data rates may apply.

Stopping, and getting help

Reply STOP or BAJA at any time to stop all messages; you get one confirmation and then nothing further. Reply START to begin again. Reply HELP or AYUDA for the list of commands and a way to reach a person.

Mobile carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

Your number

No mobile information is shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. The number is how Abierto knows whose listing to change. It also appears on the business's own public listing so customers can call — that is what a directory is — and it is never sold, rented or passed to anyone for their own use.

Cómo aceptas recibir mensajes de Abierto

Abierto es un directorio gratis de negocios que están abiertos ahora mismo en Vieques y Culebra. Esta página explica exactamente cómo un dueño de negocio pide poder cambiar su estado por mensaje de texto, y qué pasa después.

Para quién es

Solo para dueños de negocio que tienen un listado en Abierto. A los visitantes nunca se les manda un mensaje y nunca se les pide un teléfono.

Cómo se acepta, paso a paso

  1. El dueño entra a abierto.app/register y llena los datos de su negocio: nombre, categoría, isla y su propio teléfono.
  2. El campo del teléfono es opcional y dice para qué es: “Poner tu número te deja cambiar si estás abierto mandando una sola palabra a Abierto. Solo contestamos a un mensaje que tú mandes.”
  3. Nada viene marcado ni llenado de antemano. Escribir el número es el consentimiento, y dejarlo en blanco también es un registro completo.
  4. Manda el formulario. No hay que esperar ni pedir permiso a nadie.
  5. La pantalla siguiente lo confirma y enseña el número, las palabras que funcionan y cómo parar.

Al dueño que da su número en persona se le dicen las mismas tres cosas antes de anotarlo: para qué es, que Abierto solo contesta a un mensaje que él mande, y que STOP lo termina. Su número se anota solamente después de que diga que sí.

Qué se manda, y cuándo

El dueño siempre escribe primero. Abierto le contesta a un mensaje que vino de un número que ya está en un listado, y nunca empieza una conversación. Nunca manda publicidad ni ofertas.

Mandar ABIERTO, CERRADO, ALMUERZO o ESTADO cambia o reporta el estado público de ese negocio, y Abierto contesta con una confirmación en el idioma en que le escribieron.

La frecuencia de los mensajes varía — depende solo de cuánto nos escribas tú, porque cada mensaje es una respuesta a uno tuyo. Pueden aplicar cargos por mensajes y datos.

Cómo parar y cómo pedir ayuda

Manda STOP o BAJA cuando quieras para no recibir más mensajes; recibes una confirmación y después nada más. Manda START para volver a empezar. Manda HELP o AYUDA para ver los comandos y cómo hablar con una persona.

Las compañías de teléfono no son responsables por mensajes atrasados o que no lleguen.

Tu número

Ninguna información de tu celular se comparte con terceros ni con afiliados para mercadeo ni promoción. El número es como Abierto sabe cuál listado cambiar. También sale en el listado público de tu negocio para que tus clientes te llamen, y nunca se vende ni se le pasa a nadie más.
